The Story Behind
Jerk at Nite
In 2012, Howard University student Denville Myrie, Jr. began cooking authentic Jamaican jerk chicken in his dorm room to fill the void for healthy late-night food on campus, creating Jerk@Nite as the go-to solution for students tired of greasy fast food. What started as dorm deliveries evolved into a student-run operation, then food trucks in 2015 and 2017, and finally multiple brick-and-mortar locations. Today, with three food trucks, 3 Washington, D.C. restaurants, and a new Baltimore outpost, Jerk@Nite serves flavorful, Halal MSG-free Caribbean fusion dishes blending Jamaican classics like jerk chicken and oxtail with Mexican and American soul food influences. Rooted in community and real flavors, Denville’s vision is to expand nationwide through franchising while giving back to underserved neighborhoods - one delicious, affordable plate at a time.
