In 2012, Howard University student Denville Myrie, Jr. began cooking authentic Jamaican jerk chicken in his dorm room to offer students a healthier late-night alternative to fast food, creating Jerk@Nite. The idea grew from dorm deliveries into a student-run business, expanded to food trucks in 2015 and 2017, and later into brick-and-mortar locations. Today, Jerk@Nite operates 3 food trucks, 3 Washington, D.C. restaurants, a Baltimore location and a Detroit location serving Halal, MSG-free Caribbean fusion that blends Jamaican classics like jerk chicken and oxtail with Mexican and American soul food. Built on community and real flavor, the brand aims to expand nationwide through franchising while giving back to underserved neighborhoods.
